In Year Four, we enjoy a rich curriculum learning about out the world we live in, our community and ourselves. As well as English and Maths, we are fantastic readers and practice reading using online tools like Accelerated Reader.
Mr Powesland, our specialist music teacher, teaches us how to play a range of musical instruments and sing our hearts out.
We take physical and mental health very seriously, so you’ll find Panther Class doing PE on Wednesday, led by Coach Kayne, and learning about how to keep our bodies and minds healthy in PSHE.
In Maths, we will be focusing on developing our fluency, reasoning and problem solving skills using a variety of methods. By the end of this year we need to be fluent in our times tables, especially the 2,3,4,5,8 and 10s.
In English, we use Kung-Fu Punctuation to develop our punctuation and we practise our grammar in the fun and creative pieces of writing we will produce this year.
We begin the year by looking at how Brixton has changed over the years in our topic work on “Journeys through Time, Place and Mind”. Our future topics will be Power of the arts, In the Beginning, Let’s discover, The World Within London and Health Bodies, Healthy Minds.
We have daily guided reading sessions and a library session each week. Children can test their knowledge using Accelerated Reader quizzes. Don’t forget to read at every day at home too!
We also enjoy outdoor learning and look forward to organising some exciting trips this year.
