¡Hola! Welcome to Modern Foreign Languages at Holy Trinity.

As you might have guessed, the language children learn here is Spanish. We teach explicit lessons to children in KS2 (from Year 3 to Year 6) once a week. However, we also feel it is important to expose younger children to new languages and aim to provide exposure to Spanish throughout the whole school.

Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world and with a number of Spanish speaking students, is becoming an increasingly important language in our school and throughout the UK. We teach Spanish Castilian Spanish from the central Spanish peninsular, but recognise that Spanish, like English, is spoken in many forms, in many countries, and embrace them all.

Through our Spanish curriculum children develop the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. As Spanish is new to the school, Year 3 to Year 6 will all start at the same level, learning the basics. In the following academic year groups will progress naturally to the next unit. The themes we will cover this year are:

  • Autumn 1 - Meet and Greet
  • Autumn 2 - My Body
  • Spring 1 - Time to Eat
  • Spring 2 - The People Around Me
  • Summer 1 - All About School
  • Summer 2 - Tell Me When
